UNS offers year-round seminars and workshops on personal finance, homeownership and entrepreneurship, thanks to our team of financial professionals and experts. We often collaborate with financial institutions and entities such as Citibank, John Hancock Financial Network, Primerica Financial Services and Municipal Credit Union. All financial services are provided free of charge.
In order to meet the needs of veterans in the community, UNS has established a referral program with the New York State Division of Veterans Affairs. Outreach meetings where topics of interest are discussed with veterans and their families are also occasionally held.
As UNS seeks to promote the health and well-being of our community, we have a specific table in our office from which we distribute an array of health literature as well as male condoms. We receive our materials from city, state, and federal sources and replenish the literature on a regular basis. In addition, UNS collaborates with various partners to offer health education programming on nutrition, fitness, disease prevention and more.
Urban Neighborhood Services recognizes that the LGBTQ population has been traditionally under-served, especially in ethnic minority communities. We are proud to offer a safe space for LGBTQ youth and families to discuss their needs and receive referrals for various services. We also collaborate with prominent LGBTQ organizations throughout NYC to offer trainings to Coney Island organizations about how to meet the needs of the LGBTQ community and create a non-discriminatory work environment.
UNs offers the "Ask-a-Lawyer" series which ensures that community residents have access to free legal information throughout the year.
UNS is one of the first destinations of job and apartment seekers in the community. We have a resource book with a listing of available jobs and training programs, as well as a separate book which lists apartments for rent.
In Partnership with the Community Service Society (CSS), UNS helps the formerly incarcerated obtain copies of their rap sheets and helps facilitate the process for obtaining certificates of relief and good conduct.
UNS helps spread anti-violence messaging in the community and is proud to be the lead agency for The Coney Island Anti-Violence Collaborative
